Real Estate, Political Stability and Relocation to Guatemala

Being in the relocation business to Central and South American countries, and traveling between them often, I know the stigma that comes with Guatemala. However, the county has so much more to offer than most people are aware of. The 36 year civil war ended in 1996, Beautiful guatemala relocateand things have stabilized politically, laws dealing with real estate are being modernized and land property databases actually exisit for some regions.

So what’s the deal with Guatemala? Well, it is the largest and most populous of all the Central American countries and has a gross domestic product per capita equal to about half of Argentina’s. The main exports include coffee, sugar and bananas, and the agricultural sector makes up most of the exports and half the labor force in Guatemala. Farmers in the countryside work hard to make a living. (You may daily partake in Guatemala exports: Starbucks is one of the major purchasers of Guatemala coffee and it is used in most blends.)

Guatemala is exotic enough, that is for sure, and property values in Guatemala are certainly lesser than in Costa Rica and Panama. So why aren’t more people looking to relocate to Guatemala?

One of the main reasons is the severe lack of beach front property. Most people envision themselves living right on the water, or at least near enough to a white sandy Caribbean beach that they can take a day trip. Not only deos Guatemala only have about 270 miles of coastline (200 on the Pacific and 70 on the Caribbean side), those stretches of beach aren’t exactly white and sandy. The Pacific coastline is largely undeveloped and the sand is mostly black volcanic sand, making it less than ideal. On the Caribbean side there aren’t white sandy beaches, although there are interesting things to do out near the water.

However, there are plenty of undiscovered gems when it comes to living in Guatemala. Now is the time to act. La Antigua Guatemala has already been discovered by many, and is hands-down the most popular place to relocate to in Guatemala. Whether you choose to live there or use it as a launch pad to find your perfect spot in the mountains, you will certainly fall in love with Guatemala.
