There are plenty of things to do in Guatemala City, and there are just as many places to stay. You have your standard Clarion, Holiday, and Best Westerns, but if you are looking for something just as nice, but a little bit different than the standard, try the Grand Tikal Futura Hotel.
The Grand Tikal Futura Hotel is part of the Futura Complex, which is considered to be the new downtown of the city, located in Zona 11 at Calzada Roosevelt 22 43.
The Hotel offers all the services you would expect from such a nice resort including and airport shuttle bus service, 24 hour assistance, a multi-lingual staff, photo service, a baby-sitter, currency exchange and more. Within the Futura Complex there is also a bowling alley and a cinema, a beauty salon, a barber, florist, an entertainment center, a shopping mall, and even a doctor’s office!
The Grand Tikal isn’t in the nicest area, but if you are traveling by taxis, it is fine, and the area is up and coming anyways, so rather than getting worse it is actually getting better. It is nice that there is such a large shopping center across the street, and it is only 6 miles from the airport, so it is perfect if you are just staying there overnight to catch an early flight out of Guatemala City.
Everyone raves about the buffet breakfast and the Thai restaurant, which is particularly nice if you stay here at the end of a trip and are craving some Thai food, as it is not common in the rest of the country.
The swimming pool, hot tub and gym are also excellent, very modern and clean.
Rooms average about $150, and most all the staff speaks English, so you will have no problems with the language.
