Music, Art, Dancing, Theatre, Camping, Family and Peace in the Open Air are all advertised as being the events main features. The event is being hosted by Santiago Atitlan, and is the largest alternative cultural event in Guatemala. This year’s festival is the sixth of its kind since the celebrating started in 2001.

The event raises money for Hospitalito Atitlan, and this year the Kendida Foundation is getting involved as well; they have agreed to match any funds raised for the Hospitalito, making the ticket price go twice as far.

Arts and music are the entertainment of choice at Festival Atitlan and bands playing include the entire Brian Howe Electric Band, Lost Coast Marimbas, Crater, the Marco Trio Electric, Otis Brown and the Blu Dawgs, Percush, and The LeRoy Mack Bluegrass Band. In all, 12 bands will be performing.

For the kiddies there will be a couple of clowns, and additional entertainment by La Cambalacha and the Marionettes Artfunfestivalatitlanof Chumbala Cachumbala.

You can purchase tickets ahead of time at www.festivalatitlan.com. The Festival Atitlan will be held at a Pine Grove about 1 km from the Hotel Bambu on the outskirts of Santiago Atitlan. Directions are available on the web-site.

Help out a good cause while you enjoy music, art and food, in the style of hippie fun at Festival Atitlan.
