La Antigua is the Top City for Travel

The jury is out and Antigua, Guatemala has been named the Top City in the world for travel by the UK’s Wanderlust magazine.

The Wanderlust magazine awards are based on the votes of the magazine’s readers.Wanderlust award Wanderlust is the UK’s leading magazine for independent-minded and adventurous travelers. It provides advice from the experts on where to go, what to see, and how to get there. Even if you are reading from outside the UK, Wanderlust’s in-depth information is quite useful.

Guatemala is pleased with the announcement, and it follows a string of awards to Latin American for religious and cultural travel. (Mexico City is the top religious travel destination, and Peru is one of the top cultural spots, according to Forbes magazine.)

Barbara Schieber wrote for the Guatemala Times, “it is a great pride for Guatemala that La Antigua has been chosen as number one city in the world to visit. Number two is Kyoto in Japan, that is a tough one to beat. Paris and New York did not make it to the top ten.”

More adventurous travelers are seeking more exotic destinations, as well as more budget friendly stops, such as La Antigua.

  1. I spent a whole year as an exchange student in Kyoto Japan, and I have to say I probably wouldnt have gotten by if it werent for a delicious bowl of udon a couple of times a week! There is even one shop where you can eat for free if you do 30 minutes of washing the dishes after, but I cant say I was ever that poor! Anyway, I found a load more tasty looking ideas at this udon recipe site.
