Get your blood pumping hiking one of Guatemala’s volcanos/mountains!
Tajumulco is Central America’s highest volcano, at 13,776 feet, but
technically it is an easy climb. It does, however offer some pretty amazing views of both Mexico and Guatemala. On a clear day you can see all the way to the Pacific Ocean!
Tolimán boasts a twin peak summit and makes for a more challenging climb. The north peak is the principal peak and the one recommended for climbing.
Pacaya is an active volcano, a couple of hours east of Guatemala City. The hike is fairly easy, and takes between 2 and 3 hours. The first section is a more gradual incline, with amazing views, and the last 45 minutes are where the ascent really picks up. Looking down into the volcano you can’t see any lava because of the smoke, but it is still pretty interesting.
After climbing Agua you can actually sleep in a refuge inside the volcano’s crater! This volcano sits just outside of Antigua, Guatemala and looks almost picture-perfect in the background. The summit crater is at the end of a 4–5 hour hike up the steep slope. This climb may be a bit challenging for beginners.
Two mountain chains divide the country into three regions: the western highlands (mountainous regions), the Pacific coast (south of the mountains), and the Petén region (north of the mountains). It is a great place to explore the outdoors.
There are plenty of mountans to choose from:
