Don't miss the calling of the Irish in the hills of Guatemala (Antigua)

If you are in Guatemala and can make it to Antigua (about an hour ride up some steep hills – should cost you no more than $50 for a private taxi from Guat City), make it a point to stop in and see the gringos (and blokes) working at Reillys. It’s an Irish pub located in Antigua and quite a local attraction. Not the biggest place, not the cleanest looking place but the drinks are great, the company is wonderful and you are instantly at peace once you walk in the doors.

We were fortunate enough to run into Aiden – an Irish fellow from Dublin who is working his way through Asian and now Central and South America. A very pleasant and funny person, he shared his road warrior tales with all at the bar. I think he has life figured out….

So, if you are in Guatemala City, make sure you make time for this lovely town. It is well worth the effort.

Lived in Antiqua & lived in Guat City, teaching. Met some wonderful people. I don’t think Reilly’s was there when I was; I stayed at a family’s home over by the big cathedral, near 4th. How is life and the people there now?
